For advertising gambling in Finland, Betsson was fined €2.5 million ($2.7 million) by the Finish Police Board.
It was discovered that the operator has "targeted Mainland Finland in its advertising on multiple channels for an extensive period," even though Betsson does not have a licence to operate in the Nordic country.
Betsson reportedly shifted its marketing focus away from mainland Finland after the hearing, according to a statement from the Finnish Police.
"The National Police Board estimated that BML Group has significant financial interest in continuing the activities and found that the illegal activities have continued for a long time regardless of the National Police Board’s previous control measures," the police claimed.
Along with the fine, the court has also ordered Betsson to "not publish any new sales promotion material targeting Mainland Finland on its gambling websites, remove all previously published sales promotion material from them and refrain from marketing on other websites in the future as well."
Betsson will have the opportunity to file an appeal before the punitive action takes effect on June 3rd.
This announcement follows Betsson's first quarter 2023 gross profit of €147.5m, an increase of 38% from the same period in 2022.
"For 60 years, we have been offering entertainment in the form of casino games, sports betting and other types of games," stated Pontus Lindwall, President and CEO of Betsson AB, in remarks regarding the article.
When it comes to Betsson's opinion on how the business should be handled and how value is created for shareholders, having a long-term perspective is crucial.
