Over a year ago, game developer NetEnt announced that it had signed a deal with the studio that created one of the most exciting and popular television series in recent memory. Since then, we’ve been waiting with bated breath to see what this trail-blazing game studio was working on and it is finally here!
Ahead of the game’s official launch in May 2019, the trailer for the highly anticipated Narcos NetEnt slot has landed. Read on to find out what we’ve learnt about the slot and to see the trailer for yourself.
Bringing Escobar to the reels
Millions of people enjoyed the Netflix series Narcos, which aired its first episodes back in the summer of 2015. It was gripping and insightful, including many tiny details from the life of Pablo Escobar that were clearly thoroughly researched.
We got a glimpse into 1970s and 1980s Colombia, gripped by an era of violence and increasingly fuelled by North America’s appetite for narcotics. The series hides nothing from viewers, who witness the cruel and calculated lengths drug gangs would go to to quash competition and ensure compliance from everyone else. Viewers also got to go along for the ride as drug enforcement officers try to stem the tide of bloodshed and cocaine.
In 2018, Netent signed an agreement with Gaumont, the film studio responsible for the Narcos phenomenon, and have been working on a slot game by the same name. After long months of speculation, we are happy to report that a video trailer has been released.
NetEnt Narcos slot review
That was a wild ride wasn’t it? We understand if you need to watch it again to soak up all that reel-tastic goodness! The game evokes the atmosphere of a Colombian town back in the day. In fact, we think that’s Medellin – Escobar’s childhood stomping ground – in the background. Pastel shades make us think of sunbleached walls on hot afternoons.
On the reels are some objects that Narcos viewers will find very familiar indeed. Grenades, guns and piles of cash all feature and a beautifully crafted soundtrack adds suspense to the experience. We are also introduced to characters from the show, including Pablo’s girlfriend Valeria, his bodyguard Pacho, and the two detectives, one American the other Colombian, on a mission to bring down Escobar.
We also get a preview of the game’s mechanics. Narcos is built on a 5×3 reel set and offers 243 ways to win. As we would expect from NetEnt, the game is fully mobile compatible as well as playable on desktop.
The preview also shows us what kind of bonus features we can expect. There is definitely a free spins feature, which NetEnt rarely fails to include in its slots. There are also Walking Wilds and a randomly activated Drive-By feature, which sounds a little menacing if we’re honest but it can be very helpful for players.
Though putting Pablo behind bars for good was a dream for the detectives on his trail, the Locked-Up bonus feature shows us a grinning Escobar rewarding the player with coin wins. Incarceration doesn’t look all that bad from here!
