The highly urbanised 400 km-long Calgary-Edmonton Corridor in Alberta has been identified by the Canadian branch of PointsBet, an Australian company, as a "possible expansion point for its digital sports betting operations."
Alberta is being considered as a potential location for PointsBet Canada's operations due to the province's "avid spots fanbase and business-friendly environment," diversified workforce, competitive tax rates, and other favourable factors.
According to the company, its "hands-on, in-house approach" opens doors for new opportunities, which in turn keep or create jobs in the province.
"Our mission from the very beginning has been to build a Canadian sportsbook, with Canadian employees for the Canadian market," commented Scott Vanderwel, CEO of PointsBet Canada.
When it comes to iGaming in Canada, we think Alberta has the talent and highly-skilled workforce to lead the way.
Alberta stands to gain much more economically by pursuing a regulated and competitive iGaming business within the province, on top of the growth that would naturally accompany an iGaming workforce.
In a similar vein, Rick Christiaanse, CEO of Invest Alberta, expressed confidence in Alberta's potential as a global technology centre and iGaming destination.
The province of Alberta is rapidly becoming a worldwide digital hotspot, thanks to its unique infrastructure, talent pipeline, and competitive business climate, he said.
As PointsBet considers Alberta as a possible location for high-impact investment, our recent memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the company will assist the company in its investment path.
